How Can I Help?

I work best with clients (18+) and couples who love to learn. If you have always wondered why you do what you do or feel how you feel, we could be a great fit.

I lean heavily on my knowledge of neuroscience – how neural pathways form and how we can rewire them to be more effective individuals and partners. With this insight into yourself and others, you can find new ways to accept yourself and navigate your world with confidence.

Stress-Management

Life is truly stressful. One day we can manage, the next we’re overwhelmed. I can help you manage the stress of work, adulting, and relationships with strategies that work for you personally.

Healthy Habits

You know what you need to do but you don’t know how, or you can’t find the motivation. I will help you build the routines and make the lifestyle changes you’ve always wanted to make.

Relationship Healing

Healthy connection is a basic human need, and relationships are the hardest job we take on. I will teach you the skills and perspectives necessary for growing and maintaining secure relationships.

Self-Confidence

Our inner critic can be the loudest voice we hear all day. I help clients discover where this comes from and how to build an inner world of self-compassion and unshakeable confidence.

About Me

My name is Alix Jansma and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). I attended graduate school at Boston University School of Medicine before moving to the PNW. An east-coaster at heart, you’ll hopefully enjoy my dry sense of humor and direct communication style.

I am truly passionate about teaching my clients the ins and outs of human behavior, so forgive me if I nerd out in session. I love listening to people’s stories with a compassionate ear, validating their concerns, and normalizing the ever-difficult process that is living life.

Out of session, I toggle between various activities including relaxing with two adorable cats, hiking nearby mountains, and upping my tennis game.

Counseling Services

I offer virtual counseling sessions to adults (18+) and couples in Washington state. Clients I work with are tackling many different goals, including managing anxiety and depression, improving their relationships, and creating healthy habits across life areas. I work with my clients to build an environment and treatment plan that fits their unique goals. I provide a safe space to explore your past and connect it to the present, take steps towards optimal well-being, and learn skills to face difficult situations with confidence.

My Approach to Therapy

Aperçu (ah-per-‘soo) is a French word that means “a discerning perception or insight.” My approach to therapy involves helping my clients gain meaningful insight into themselves and others. I will let you in on the theory I’m working from and give you the knowledge and tools to continue a lifelong journey of positive change.

A few theories I pull from are Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Neurocounseling. Ultimately, I explore my clients’ issues through a lens comprised of insight, skill, and acceptance. My clients discover the why behind their emotions and behavior, apply skills to handle tough moments, and learn to accept themselves, their loved ones, and their circumstances.

My clients have described me as warm, nonjudgmental, and intelligent. Clients appreciate my educational approach to therapy, my direct communication style, and my sense of humor. My goal is always to accept and encourage my patients no matter where they are in their mental health journey.

What About Insurance?

I don’t take insurance. However, you may consider contacting your insurance provider to inquire about coverage for out-of-network providers. Many insurance providers offer some amount of reimbursement for out-of-network therapy. I will provide you a bill you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. You can also pay for your sessions with your HSA/FSA account.

Tip: call your insurance and ask about your out-of-pocket responsibility for behavioral health sessions with an out-of-network provider (give them CPT code 90837). You may also need to provide my name and NPI number (1093589400).
